Laurie Filipelli specializes in guiding high school students on their journey toward college admissions by leading them through all aspects of the college application essay writing process.

In this two hour workshop, students will evaluate topics, discuss writing strategies, create outlines, and hone their way into their most meaningful personal stories for college admissions essays. Participants must submit an initial rough draft by Wednesday, October 19th. This draft can be an unshapely spill of ideas that will serve as jumping off point for discussion.  As part of the workshop package, each student will receive after the workshop a full page of individualized feedback on how best to shape their draft into a compelling and successful essay.

To ensure personal treatment, the class will be limited to a maximum of twelve students.

THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS ESSAY WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

• Writing prompts: To help students discover a wealth of possible essay topics, Laurie will provide writing prompts, including a personal inventory.
• Sample essays: Admissions officers agree that the best writing samples are found not in other college application essays, but in published personal essays. Laurie carefully selects samples to share and discuss with students.
• Personalized evaluation: Once essay drafts are submitted, Laurie spends an hour per essay evaluating and making careful notes. These notes are emailed to students within a week.

Interested students should reserve a spot by sending Laurie an email with your name and high school. A reservation will hold your spot for 5 days, so payment must be received by then, or your reservation will be lost. Cancellations must be made 24 hours PRIOR to class date for a 75% refund.
