College applications can be daunting, but getting a head start helps relieve stress and encourage ownership of the process. AWS members of the Class of 2014 are invited to take part in this two-day “boot camp” to focus on all aspects of their applications.
Boot camp participants will work with Ms. Grogan to determine final or developing college lists; set-up and fill in the Common Applications online; develop a theme for self-presentation; make interview preparations; receive tactical tips; invite faculty recommenders; evaluate resumes and generally accomplish a strong foundation for senior year.
With Laurie, students will focus on the college application essay writing process: evaluating topics, outlining drafts, and honing meaningful personal stories. As part of the workshop package, each student will receive a full page of individualized feedback on how best to shape their draft into a compelling and successful essay.
To benefit fully from the camp, participants should prepare a complete list of colleges, an edited resume, and an initial essay draft, as well as a completed worksheet that outlines parent educational background. Essay drafts should be submitted to laurie@lauriefilipelli.org no later than August 1st.
Interested students should reserve a spot by sending Laurie an email. A reservation will hold your spot for 5 days, so payment must be received by then, or your reservation will be lost. Cancellations must be made 24 hours PRIOR to class date for a 75% refund.
ADDITIONAL CONSULTATION AVAILABLE:
To continue to help improve the content, style, structure, grammar – every aspect of the essay, Laurie can be contracted at an hourly rate to continue consultation with individual students.
